Oh yeah, that small town in France...
Sometimes I wonder where I'm going with some of these jokes. Took me a bit of time to find that Coneheads clip and it didn't even do the whole joke. It also took me a minute to remember why I was trying to make the joke about Grenoble being a real small town in France, since that's where we're headed.
First thing I did was grind for the last of that armor like I said last time. Not sure how necessary that was, because when I got to Grenoble, all the same armor was available there for the same price, or at least not too much different, plus there was a new weapon for Lufia in the weapon shop, too.
Our assignment in Grenoble is to go digging around in a place called the Old Cave, which is north of town, and find an item called the Fairy Kiss for an old dude in a place called the Spring Basement. The point of this Spring Basement is to give treasure hunters quests in the Old Cave and reward them for finding specific items. To get access to the Spring Basement, we have to pay 50 gold, and from there, talk to the old dude about the Fairy Kiss, and he'll tell you he'll give you a clue about Artea if you bring it to him. When that's said and done, there's a counter on the east end of the room where a guy will give you a quest in the cave that'll get you into the Old Cave. In this case, the quest is for something called the Secret Map, for which the reward is 500 gold.
It's not a long trip to the cave itself, and the first actual treasure level isn't particularly hard, since the story-related stuff is there. There's a left path that goes to the Secret Map and a right path that goes to the Fairy Kiss. The Fairy Kiss is in a room that only women can enter, so Lufia has to go in all on her own to fish the thing out. It's not a terribly difficult thing, fortunately.
Once I got both items, I got back out and turned both items in to the proper people. The old dude who was supposed to have the clue for us says that somebody who might actually know something for real is in a tower northwest of town, but he won't actually talk without a letter from the old dude, so he hands over the letter and sends us on our way.
After talking to the old dude, I turned in the Secret Map, too. Once that's collected on, we can go to the second treasure level, also, since the hero's technically at level 10, and the system is that we can get another level to the cave for every five levels of XP he goes up. This one's a little tougher, the guy who gives the quests says. By “a little”, he means “a lot”. Just about everything there can bet the hell out of the party at level ten, since that's the minimum level, so it was probably a poor idea for me to give it a shot so soon, but I did it anyway. Managed to pull it off, but only just barely, and most likely because I had an item in my inventory called “escape”, so I used that to get out. The treasure we're after is called the Silver Wick, which they give 1000 gold for.
The other item on this floor of note, at least for now, is a cursed broadsword that I forgot was cursed until I equipped it to the hero. I know that means it can't be unequipped without the aid of the priest or whatever at the save point. I'm not sure what else it does because I never leave it on long enough to find out.
I think I might go back in to grind in the cave for a little while between issues here, because I was looking at what I'd said about this part the last time I did this game, and it looks like having a couple extra levels will come in handy. Hopefully, I'll get to all this in less time than it took me to get to this one. Hadn't intended to let it sit this long, but here we are.
Funny thing is, it might have been longer had I not come across a post in one of the Discord servers I'm about what sort of game we'd wind up with if the last two I played were made into one, and my comment was that since the last two I played were this one and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I'd have to think about what that might be like in spite of some of the oddball, if not downright ill-advised, crossovers I've written over the years, like this AquaTeen Hunger Force/Pokemon anime one or the GTA3-style Hamtaro bit from about the same time.
But anyway, that's where I am for now. Hopefully, it won't be so long before the next one. Until then, stay safe, have fun, keep gaming, and DFTBA!
