And not knowing when to quit while I'm at it. But at least I did manage to advance the plot a little bit.
When I left off last time, I was at the part where I needed to get the person from Chatan Village back home. When I wrote the post, I said it was the Danil guy from the second time we went through the cave to Sheran, but it was actually his sister Lilah we rescued with the King of Sheran and one other person. When we get her there, everybody's happy she's safe, and she tells us we should go to that Lorbinia place everybody's been hyping up. To get there, we need to get to a town called Treck first.
It's a bit of a hike from Chatam to Treck, which might have been part of the reason for the name. When I got there, I did a little looking around, and the townsfolk talk about how there are no ships coming in or going out due to the rampant monster attacks, which means we're going to have to do something about it before we can move on.
Now, if I would have done the smart thing and stopped there, this either wouldn't have been much of a post or a multi-session one, either of which wouldn't have been as bad as how this actually went. Unfortunately, I had to get clever and try for a little more, so the first thing I tried was talking to the old man watching the scene from the hill to the east of the docks. He said he was a member of something called the Guy League, and had his assistant take us to somebody he called “the One”. Turns out “the One” is Guy from the beginning of the game. When he hears what's going on, he tries to join the party, only to keel over before he even got out the door of his house. On my way back to Treck from that, my luck ran out and I died.
What happens in this game when you lose your party is it'll revive the hero and drop you outside the last town you saved at with half your gold. That can be a real challenge, depending on where you are in the game when it happens. If I'd have had any sense, I'd have quit the first time that happened, but after I revived Lufia and stayed at the Inn, I wandered around town a bit and wound up at the point where we recruit our actual third party member, a solider from that Lorbinia place called Argurio, I think, when we fight off some momsters to save the ship that's supposed to take us to Lorbinia. I forgot that talking to him started that fight right away and got my ass kicked there, too.
Part of the reason that was happening is that I'm a sick guy who's up way too late again. Another part is that I've kind of got the song I was going to use for the gag title if I'd done this right stuck in my head, too.
If it seems like I went through all that a little quickly, it's because I really am ill and a little tired, and I intend to cover it better when I come back to it next time, when I come back to all this and use the title I used last time I did a run of this game here: Star Treckin'. Until then, stay safe, have fun, keep gaming, and DFTBA!
