Picture Post: Seagull Dukat

I've only got a couple of these this year, and I'm starting off with an inside joke from a Discord server I'm in.

It's been a couple years since I've had an actual vacation, and it was about time. This year, my mom and I took a trip to California to visit my brother and his wife. As I was writing the draft for this, I was seriously considering doing a standalone post about it, since we did more than just hang out at the beach. That will likely come between this one and the other one of these I have in mind.

But I'm going to start off with something of an inside joke from a Discord server I'm in. There's this YouTuber I watch called Unlimited Lives who does reviews of, for the moment, anyway, 90s era Star Trek. One of the Pateron tiers lets people submit joke names for major recurring characters, and somebody on that tier picked the Dukat character when Deep Space Nine rolled around, and went with “Seagul Dukat” because of his rank in the military he's in.

I wasn't thinking too hard about any of that when we mad our first trip to the beach from the hotel we were staying at, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this:

I'm sure there's a reason for that, but I'm not going to think too hard about it.

Closer to the end of the trip, I wound up getting what I thought was another good shot:

I'm not sure if that's the same bird or not, since they all look pretty similar.
