Picture Post: Point Loma Cliffside

There were a few things we did the day we went to a place called Point Loma, but I didn't get many pictures, all things considered.

There's a big monument to the Spanish or Portuguese “explorer” who showed up looking for gold and all that in the area way back. We looked around there for awhile, but it was a little crowded with a school group that was an English as a second language class that needed to take picutres to prove they were there. Since it was a cramped space and I didn't want to get in anybody's way, I didn't get any pictures while we were at the statue part of the monument. We also looked around the museum there for a bit, which was interesting, before stopping at the gift shop. I bought a coffee mug, as I usually do at places like that because I collect that sort of thing. Unfortunately, it didn't survive the trip home because I was foolish enough to put it in my checked luggage, thinking it was going to be safe there.

Before we went to the main monument, we went to a scenic overlook that was over some tide pools. I couldn't get a good shot of the tide pools themselves, but I did get a good one of the ocean from the top of the cliff:

The general area there looks a lot like West River South Dakota, though the cactuses are a little different:

Still, it's a nice area, and I'm glad we got to go see it. There was really only one other thing I tried to get a picture of while we were there:

I had a little help from my brother on that one. The lizard is well enough camouflaged that it blends in rather well with its surroundings and it moves quick, too. And, interestingly enough, between the time we got this picture and when I actually got to making this post, there was a meme that made the rounds that seemed relevant.

We wrapped up that particular trip with a visit to the military cemetery on Point Loma, which was a nice place to wrap up with. It was like a couple other places like it I've visited over the years., and I'm glad we made it there.
