An Unfortunate Lesson

Hopefully, I've learned something from recent experiences on Bluesky.

For anyone who might not be aware, I fell victim to a phishing scam on Bluesky recently. I lost control of the account for awhile, and only just recently got it back. Worse yet, I'm out a not insignificant amount of money. And still worse, I'm sure I'll be cleaning up the mess I got myself into for quite awhile as a result.

Basically, I got this DM saying somebody was impersonating me and I needed to get in contact with somebody else to solve this alleged problem. From there, this other person said I needed to give them my login and some money to resolve things. I fell for it like an idiot and lost control of my account for awhile and the money I handed over. The primary reason for that is, I would say, that I think more of myself than I realize most of the time.

Like I was saying when I got my account back, I do indeed have it back now, and the real me is posting on Bluesky again. I'm really hoping I've learned my lesson from this. It's a stupid mistake that I'd seen somebody else make before I fell for it myself.

The lessons here are to be careful about who you trust and believe on social media, and to keep your ego in check because it's just amazing how bad things can get and how quickly they can go wrong if you don't.

At any rate, I'm back and I really hope I've learned my lesson from the experience. With any luck, I'll be back to my more regular material soon.
