o/~ Save Big Money At Lorbinia o/~
OK, so that doesn't work quite as well as it does in the commercials I was drawing from, and worse yet, we don't even get an 11% mail-in rebate for our trouble. At least I did manage to get going with the plot a little bit, and even remember a desktop wallpaper I had on the computer I had when I first started doing all this business.
To start things off, I did a little wandering around in Treck and found the captain of the Maberia on the second floor of the pub, who told us that his ship had been taken to a small island north of town that could only be accesed by way of a dangerous tunnel. The good news is that I didn't have as much trouble getting through it as I did getting through that last bit. I can see how it could be a problem, though, considering the sort of trouble I had getting to where I could actually go for this. At least there was a sort-of-secret area in the cave with special floor tiles that restore health and magic. Just gotta jump down a hole and take the top warp point of two while down there.
One thing that happened along the way was that I ran into a lot of kobolds, wolflike monsters, that dropped MidArrow combat items at the end of quite a few battles. Kind of came in handy when we got to the island where the Maberia was.
The ship itself is parked at a relatively small island, just big enough for the dock, really. Kind of reminds me of a place I read about on i-Mockery many years ago, actually. This time, we've got a boss fight against three Goblins, and those MidArrows I'd been getting on the way really came in handy. Probaly saved my ass from getting killed. When they go down, we get the ship back to town and tell the captain, who graciously offers to take us off to Lorbinia for free.
I did a little grinding first, since Lufia was just shy of getting another level after that last fight, and just my luck, she got the Drain spell when that happened. In this case, the Drain spell actually takes its target's defense down rather than stealing health like it does in the Final Fantasy games I've played, if memory serves.
Once all that was done, it was off to Lorbinia, where Aguro says he's going to check in at base and see if he can get a few units to help go after the Sinistrals, as he seems to take the hero's story seriousl. I think seeing what was going on in Treck and getting to fight alongside him and Lufia at the port kind of helped with that. While he's off doing that, the hero and Lufia went to check out the big shop in town, and it turns out the hype is real, as the kids these days say. The place has drink shops on the ground floor; an accessory shop on the second floor, along with a shop that sells plushies that work as combat items that cause status effects, though I don't really get how they work because I've never really used them; and the featured clothing store on the top floor.
While we're on the top floor, there's all the cool dresses the folks in at least Treck were talking up and the trigger for a cutscene that leads to something I had as my desktop wallpaper way back when I was still using an XP machine. There's this kid who picks Lufia's pocket and takes all her gold. The hero catches up with him outside and threatens to put him in the army until Lufia shows up and just lets him go once she has the money back in hopes that the boy will learn his lesson somehow.
From there, it's off to the inn, where the guy at the counter explains that the boy's called Lou Shaia, son of Professor Railie Shaia, who's this big, fancy scientist guy on a mission to do some sort of Science, Of Course! kind of thing and isn't taking the kiddo with him because it's dangerous. Lou's resorted to picking pockets because science for its own sake doesn't pay very well, and the father doesn't have much to send back home to the son. After the explanation, he tells us that yeah, a night at the inn is 20 gold, too.
After our night there, Aguro shows back up to tell us that yeah, his government isn't going to do a damn thing either, so he's quit the army to come help us actually do something useful instead. This means there's now three of us on our way to Grenoble to find out about whoever it is might be there to help us get this mess sorted.
Before we get there, though, I'm going to do a little grinding and get my equipment upgraded a bit. The armor set we get here is called Tan. Not sure if that refers to the color or if that had some other meaning if this game was originally a Japanese release. That's something I never really thought about until I wrote this bit just now. Might have to look that up at some point. If I do, I'll try to mention it next time. Until then, stay safe, have fun, keep gaming, and DFTBA!
