Things I Miss: County Line Gaming

Not necessarily because the gaming group is gone or anything, but because I haven't been paying the kind of attention I used to.

The top two reasons for that, I suspect, are because I've been busy with other stuff, both IRL and online; and as a result, video game stuff hasn't been quite as important lately. And by lately, I mean somewhere in the area of the last four or five years, really, but moreso the last year and a half or so.

What I miss here, really, is the community website the group had between like 2008 or 2009 through the end of 2016 or early 2017 on account of some of the aforementioned IRL stuff. They've got a YouTube channel that I'm subbed to and is still active that I just keep forgetting about because I just didn't have notifications turned on until I started writing this. Looks like at least one member is doing an LP of Sly Cooper and the Thevius Raccoonis that I'm gonna try and watch later.

What I miss most about the community site they had was the forum because it was a good place to share my own work and maybe get and/or give advice to and from other players. There was also quite a lot of interesting conversation on many other topics, too. Kinda helped keep my motivation up for all this stuff, too, because it was one place I was fairly sure my stuff was being seen by folks who were as interested in it as I was.

The main site also made it a little easier to find work done by all the main members of the group, rather than just the one that led me to find the rest of the group. I'm subscribed to all of them, too, of course. I know a couple of them co-opped a game set in the same world as Final Fantasy 9 and that used the same game engine and art style, and that one of the others did a game called Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, if I remember the name correctly. I'll just need to check the channels to see what's what. Might even inspire me to get back to my own stuff, too.

But yeah, just a quick little shout-out to a somewhat oldschool YouTube gaming group that's still more or less around. I'll have to check out some of their more recent stuff, and I'd recommend others do the same.

  1. Maaan I feel you about IRL (and other) things taking the focus off of video games and related content. It has not been easy to find a lot of time for these past few years.

Only a few things have gone up on my channel these last few years, and I'm not the proudest of much of it. I'd like to change that, if only temporarily, but I don't think I'm ready to quite yet.

I also miss the days of the website, but was unable to repair it. Only thing I could figure out would have been a clean forum install with all old posts gone. Didn't see the point. Website was also mostly a ghost town by the time it broke anyway.

I have a busted but mostly intact archive of those old posts still though. It's non-functional but is readable. Searching through it can be a slight chore, particularly if I don't have clear enough direction on what to search for, but if you recall something specific you wish you could dig up again DM me sometime and I'll see what I can do.

You'll find that CLG's content style these days has changed quite a bit. No one really uploads solo LPs to that channel anymore; it's pretty much always somewhere from 3-6 people commentating in each video, usually 4 or 5. A couple things a few years ago had just 2 people in them.

Anyway, appreciate the shoutout! I hope we'll all see better days sooner than later, and that when circumstances make the act less of a burden, you and I will both be able to knock out some new content we can be pretty happy with.

    2. Thanks for the comment on this! It's cool to hear from one of the main contributors to CLG like this.

It's interesting to hear what was going on with the site at the end. I knew things were going screwy on the back end, but wasn't sure of the extent.

I don't have anything in particular in mind from the forums, but if that changes, I'll send you a DM.

I'll have to check out some of the newer stuff. The group commentary thing sounds interesting, and I've been meaning to learn a bit more about some of those games for awhile now anyway, so that should make things a little more fun.

Anyway, thanks again for the comment! It was awesome to hear from you. Here's to getting back to decent content again!
