Now that I’ve got a few things more or less sorted out and squared away in some sense, I should really start trying to figure out what to do from here.
The random passing thoughts and weird ideas of Jesse Shearer. Content will range from essays to observations to art, and just about anything one can think of to put in a blog.

Text Play: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Taito, 1993, SNES) Issue #011: How It Always Seems To End
Bad news, folks. I’m going to have to officially abandon another run of this game, much as I would rather not.

Text Play: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Taito, 1993, SNES) Issue #009: On Our Way Again
Took me awhile to get back to this, but here I am again.
I did a little more grinding along the way back to the tower, albeit inadvertently. I got one last level for the hero on the way to the Northwest Tower to go after the Apprentice there, so I went back to Grenoble to heal up and save my game. When I got back to the tower, I got a little lost and almost died again, but along the way, I realized I must have done a little grinding there, too, because a lot of the treasure chests were empty. After using two of my three revive potions and another trip to and from town and Lufia gaining a level and a spell along the way, I finally got back to the top of the tower and beat the guy at the top.
The strategy for taking this Apprentice out is to use the hero's Drain spell to bring his defense down and then wail away with melee attacks and use the healing spell and/or items you've got as needed.
Once he goes down, he tells us that this Artea fellow we're looking for is in a village of elves that only other elves can find and get into called Elfrea. Hey, this is a SNES game from the early 90s, I think we can cut them some slack on the naming convention here. Anyway, the place we're looking for is on an island surrounded by three other islands, and we've gotta cross the desert south of Grenoble to even get started on our way there.
I remember it being quite a long trip from last time I tried this, but that's been awhile. I'll probably have to have a look at what I did before to see what I did to get through all this. Hopefully, I'll have the next issue of this run up in less time than it took me to get to this one out. Until then, stay safe, have fun, keep gaming, and DFTBA!

Text Play: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Taito, 1993, SNES) Issue #007: Should've Kept Grinding
I just couldn't be satisfied with that, though.

But then finally advanced the plot a bit.

Text Play: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Taito, 1993, SNES) Issue #002: Stumbling About
And not knowing when to quit while I'm at it. But at least I did manage to advance the plot a little bit.

Text Play: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Taito, 1993, SNES) Issue #001: Men In Tights
I was going to open this with the same joke I made the last time I did this, but calling the Alekian knights sissies seems in poor taste somehow now.

Text Play: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Taito, 1993, SNES) Issue #000: Take Two, Maybe...?
It's been a dozen years since I had a go at this game, and in spite of not having touched it in that long, I remember it being a pretty good game.

It's not the best title ever, but it will serve its intended purpose.
